6/17/05: Fancy Follow-up / Barn Update Fancy is doing great! She has fully recovered and is healthy though she lost a little weight through the colic ordeal. The summer heat has arrived and we have been busy working to finish out the barn. The end of the barn is in place, sand has been delivered and spread, and the electric service is installed. I have ordered ten 400 watt multi-tap lights and will soon wire in the 220 service to run them and the horse treadmill. Phone lines and cat 5 cable (to allow for internet access and camera surveillance in the barn) will also be installed this weekend. In addition, the ranch has acquired a mechanical cow cutting dummy that operates on remote control. This will add a new dynamic to our training program. The extra 20 acres that was recently purchased adjacent to our ranch will soon ben fenced and we will have even more room for horse and goat turnout. Things are coming together. Having made such great strides in improving our infrastructure, we have decided to offer full board to only a few horses on a first come - first serve basis. The miles of forested riding and dirt road riding around the ranch make us a prime location for boarding. Please contact us if you are interested. |

6/8/05: Fancy Colics I went out to the pasture to feed horses this morning and noticed Fancy was down in the pasture. This happens from time-to-time and I always make them get up. Fancy did not want to get up (and finally did) but was totally disinterested in her food. I led her into the trailer, took her to the vet, and he confirmed my suspicions. After IVs, tube into the stomach, mineral oil, Banamine, Rompum, etc, Fancy got to go home and looked much better. We are still slowing bringing her back to a healthy state. Our vet says that she ate a poisonous pasture weed. We have subsequently moved all horses from that paddock to other locations until we do a complete pasture survey. |
