8/23/05: Help @ the Ranch & Playday Preparation

With an expanding brigade of horses and facilities we have been looking to hire some help. Thanks goes out to Tara for helping us find Nikki... Nikki will help with our horses and barn maintenance on a part-time basis. We're happy to have her on board...

D-Talk Ranch will be hosting a playday on September 3rd - Turley Ranch will be a sponsor and participant. While we hardly claim that any of our horses are barrel/pole horses, D-Talk playdays are a lot of fun and we have stepped up our training so that we can be more competitive.

8/22/05: Saturday Trailride

I had a great time on the trailride - as did everyone else who attended. I took the pics with my cellphone so the quality is not that good! I rode for about four hours - the sun was brutal. As you can see in the picture, we even had a young colt following the mother painthorse. Prior to the ride, Heather prepared a great breakfast that would be difficult to top.

The remainder of the day was spent trying to acquire hardware to hang the sunshade fabric that was purchased for the barn. Additionally, with the D-Talk Ranch playday three weeks away, I'm going to have to get June Bug into shape for barrels and poles. This will take some time but trailrides like this are good for bringing her (slowing her) down...

8/16/05: Saturday Trailride

For those who may be interested in trailriding on the ranch and surrounding area, send me an email. We will meet on the deck at the ranchhouse at 8:30 AM. We'll have some coffee, eat breakfast and head out for a few hours of nice, scenic riding.

The sunshade fabric arrives today via semi-tractortrailer and we will be busy verifying that the fabric configurations match our arena dimensions.

Training continues to focus on Jabalina June Bug (pictured below) , our stallion Pobrecito Peppy, and Jabalina San Maple.

8/10/05: Arena Improvements Continue

We know that winter will be here soon and we are making preparations to protect our stock. With the arena in place, we have elected to install sunshade fabric (80% weave) around the entire arena perimeter for the winter months. This fabric will knock down the wind and keep out rain that might blow in from the sides. We have ordered 20 sheets of 15' x 20' sunshade fabric that is grommeted on the edges every 1 foot. This is 6000 square feet of material and should last for 10 to 12 years. The arena will be opened back up in the spring, summer, and fall months.

Additionally, we have run phone and data lines to the arena and are in the process of installing phone and computer network jacks. With the expectation of flooring 2000 square feet between two arena trusses for an arena booth (for events), this will be a necessity.

8/2/05: Boer Goat Doelings for Sale
Doelings for Sale

Heather has been busy raising another crop of goats. All wethers are sold but doelings are still available. These goats are fullbloods and can be dual registered with the American Boer Goat Association (ABGA) and the International Boer Goat Association (IBGA). These goats are show quality!
