April News
4/18/05: Louisiana Trip It was nice to get out of the Houston area for a while and trek over to Louisiana. We got to see some good friends and brought back some nice pictures of the two-year old stallion that we bred to Fancy. Thanks to Mark, Sam and Andy for all the hospitality.

4/9/05: Goat Kidding Pen Heather has been pushing for improving our so we spent some time working on that this weekend. With the new goat shelter built, we moved the old one into a smaller fenced area where goat kids can be separated from the rest of the herd with their nanny. Heather then built and installed new portable creep feeder along and hay rack. As you can see from the pics below, they are getting pretty big and are extremely active. They will be weaned soon and are for sale in our Boer Goats for Sale page.

4/8/05: Crawfish Boil Preparation For the sixth year in a row, Turley Ranch will have their annual crawfish boil. We have been busy with meticulous "grounds" maintenence (more than usual anyway) and in wiping away the marks that winter has left. Presently we are expecting around 80 people and will have Oregon, Georgia, Louisiana, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Arkansas, and Texas partygoers represented. Each year we have flat-bottom boat races, cutthroat croquet, a mountain of crawdads, and great people who travel from long distances to get here. We sincerely appreciate the friendship bestowed on us by everyone...Thanks! |

4/6/05: Goat Comfort Since January, the sand that Heather had delivered for our goat shed remained exactly where the dump truck left it - up by the road. With our recent dry weather, I have relocated all of the sand into the goat shed. Heather is happy, the goats are happy. I really love front-end loaders. |

4/4/05: Land Purchase The Turley Ranch has recently gained access (through a family land purchase) to another 20 acres adjacent to our original 28 acres and has been authorized use of this additional land indefinitely. We will be working to fence select portions for additional animal grazing areas - probably for cattle. We have set up our clearspan structure with a 100 foot roundpen and would like to practice running our horses on cattle from time-to-time. This plot will also provide additional areas for trail-riding and is heavily wooded providing shelter for deer, hogs, and other small game. |
