6/25/04: Gearing Up For The Britannia Farm Summer Classic Quarter Horse Show
Sorry for the delinquency on updates - we've been busy! Fantastic Reflection will soon have her showing debut in the Two Year Old Mare Open Class at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center Britannia Farm Summer Classic show in Katy, Texas July 15 - 18. Fantastic will compete each day in the same class but with a different AQHA judge. In anticipation of the show, we have intensified her grooming schedule and slightly altered her diet -she is looking real nice. Lately, huge rains have hit us and they will apparently continue through next week. This has slowed us down a bit but we are adapting and working Fantastic in the open round pen between rain bands!

Cito Continues Cutting Training
I have intended to visit Cito in Simonton but again, the weather has not been cooperative. I have received regular updates from Bobby Hunt who apparently feels as though Cito has talent. Speaking to Mr. Hunt in the last update it was mentioned that Cito wasn't moving fast enough, they beared down on him a bit, his speed improved but he copped an attitude that was (in their opinion) short lived. The general feeling is that Cito is where he belongs and, for his age, is performing at an acceptable level and progressing as he should. I will hopefully be able to visit him sometime this next week.

6/14/04: Cito Goes to Cutting Training

I trailered Cito to Simonton, Texas and left him in the hands of a great cutting trainer, Mr. Bobby Hunt. Mr Hunt will perform a 30 day evaluation on Cito to determine if he has the heart and athleticism to excel in cutting. Cito has the blood and the build - I hope his mind is right. Cito will have to have his wolf teeth removed to facilitate a bit well. I will be travelling to Simonton a few times a week to check on his progress. You can't hit a home run if you don't step up to the plate.

6/11/04: New Boer Goat Area

Inevitably, the area around gates gets muddied by eager goats and horses waiting for their morning and evening feed - we are working to spread some crushed concrete around to alleviate the problem. This particular area (pictured right) will be sectioned off for goat access only so they can - should they desire - have a break from interacting with our horses.

6/7/04: A Rare Opportunity

I recently had an opportunity to purchase an unique item that can not only help our own horses gain muscle and look better for competitions, but can help visitors get their own horses in better shape. Horse treadmills are few and far between and are vastly expensive though I happened to track one down and get it for a bargain-basement price. It is a Safe-T-Mills Original, needs some aesthetic work, but is quite functional. Here is a pic of the same model, new out of the box, as I haven't snapped pics of ours.

6/6/04: Welcome Aboard

Working full-time jobs in houston, building ranch infrastructure, and training horses keeps us busy - we need help! A friend, Erin, who will be attending OSU pre-vet school in the fall will be helping us train horses this summer. We appreciate the assistance and know that our horses love the extra attention.

6/4/04: Visitors at the Ranch

My friend Steve and his family made it out to the ranch last weekend for a tour. Here are the pics...

6/3/04: Baby Fullblood Boers & 90% Foundation Foal

Here are pics of the boer goat twins that were born last week. Below is our foundation foal that is growing quickly. Check out his pedigree here.

6/2/04: Fencing of 5 Acre Pasture Complete

As usual, we are working to improve our facilities. I hired a couple of hands over the Memorial Day weekend and stretched our last few runs of horse field fence opening up another five acres of high quality bermuda grass to our horses. Our goats will love the additional roughage as well. This paddock will also allow for selective separation of show animals and breeding animals.

6/1/04: Cito Prepares for Cutting Training

TMS Pobrecito Peppy (aka "Cito") has been working with a professional trainer since May 4th. Last night I rode him with snaffle bit and watched him work some steers in the D-Talk Ranch arena. My trainer Donnie has recommended one more week of training for Cito before he goes to Bobby Hunt in Simonton, Texas.
