7/28/04: No Boer Kids Left - Inquiries On Breeding Cito

Someone showed up today and put a deposit on the last buckling available. We are out of kids!

We have had a few requests trickle in regarding breeding with our stallion TMS Pobrecito Peppy. Unfortunately, I feel as though we cannot interrupt his cutting training with breeding and have suggested that all bookings be delayed to early next year which is better timing anyway.

7/26/04: One Boer Kid Left - Cito on cows

All Boer goat kids except for one male have been sold. We are shopping for additional breeding stock so we can increase our crop size in the coming year or so.

Bobby Hunt Cutting Horses has had Cito on cows for a few weeks now - I will be visiting him tomorrow to assess his progress. He still has a the "stallion mindset" and can be stubborn at times. Apparently the remedy is to tie his head around and leave him in the roundpen for a few hours.

7/21/04: Selling Goats and Website Updates

Apparently the Boer goat business is thriving. I have received tons of emails and phone messages inquiring about our Boer goat stock and which goats are for sale. We have several people who will be visiting us this weekend to look over the remaining Boer kids. I also received a call this week from someone looking for help in evaluating/possibly training a potential halter horse gelding of 13 months.

I have determined that I need to get a firewire cable for our digital camcorder. Apparently, the USB cable can only be used to transfer individual camcorder pics that get stored on the memory card. While I am able to grab a frame from the video stream and make it a "pic" that can bet transferred via USB to my computer (and hence the website), the image quality is less than acceptable. When I get the firewire connection working, I hope to post some video clips of Cito and the AQHA horse show in Katy.

7/18/04: Show Results

Fancy ended up with two firsts, three seconds, and one third though it should be mentioned that, like in the Santa Claus Classic in Katy last December, I was disappointed in the turnout. There were simply not enough people in the classes that I competed in to really gain any points. I am pleased though to have had the chance to get out with my horse, compete, and gain some showing experience. I also met some really nice people throughout the competition who gave me some good tips on improving Fancy's physique.

7/12/04: Showtime Approaching

All effort over the next few days will be on getting ready for the July 15 - July 18 show in Katy, Texas. I had considered renting a stall at the show but have decided to trailer in everyday. This will be burdensome but will (I think) keep Fantastic more relaxed and in familiar surroundings. I am concerned that she doesn't have enough mass to place - we'll see. I am convinced though that I have done all I can in the time I've had.
7/5/04: Good Help Is Hard To Find
Over the last few weeks, Erin has worked hard to help us refine our halter horse Fancy (Fantastic Reflection). Through sacking the horse out, exercising her to build muscle, and frequent groomings, Fancy is a better horse - we appreciate her efforts. Erin will be entering Oklahoma State University in the fall and hopes to major in Veterinary Science.

7/5/04: The Rain Affects Everything
As I landed at Hobby Airport in Houston, in the pouring rain, I thought to myself how I might improve our infrastructure to limit the interruptions we have on our horse training because of the weather. Quoting from the National Weather Service, "IN HOUSTON...THE FIRST SIX MONTHS OF 2004 HAVE BEEN THE WETTEST SIX MONTHS IN RECORDED HISTORY. THROUGH JUNE 30TH...44.94 INCHES OF RAIN HAS FALLEN. THE NORMAL RAINFALL FOR THE SAME PERIOD SHOULD BE 24.12 INCHES. " For a more in-depth weather summary, click here. I spoke to Bobby Hunt yesterday on Cito's progress and he said he hasn't put him on a cow yet because the rain is so unrelenting that they have only worked him in the enclosed arena. I will be visiting Cito on Thursday and will take some pics to post. Cito still has to have his wolf teeth out and I did have his shoes recently replaced.

As wet as it has been, we have (lately) been drying out some and when not training Fantastic I'm in ranch maintenance mode. Reconditioning the round pen, restocking feed, the regular horse stall cleanings, not to mention mowing the property and updating the website. Oh yea, I've got a full-time job in Houston as well. I'm not complaining!

On another note, I have added some new ranch pics and changed the page format for them. Not all of them work yet but they will all be functional in the next day or so...

Fantastic Reflection

I did not train Fantastic Reflection last weekend as I was in Oklahoma and unfortunately, I believe she did drop some weight in my absence. Not much time left to get her polished for the show ring and she has my full attention until the competition. On Friday my farrier will be shoeing Fantastic Reflection and June Bug.
